Małgorzata Szumowska’s "Never Gonna Snow Again" Part of Venice Competition

The drama "Never Gonna Snow Again" by Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert, which has been co-funded by MDM via the German-Polish Film Fund, will have its world premiere at the 77th edition of the Venice International Film Festival.

Claas Danielsen, CEO of Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM), comments: "It fills me with great pleasure to see a project funded by the German-Polish Film Fund invited to the Venice Competition. Congratulations to filmmakers Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert, whose acute observation and wit so cleverly exposes the yuppie scene of Warsaw. On another note, I find it to be an important signal of hope that the organizers of the oldest film festival in the world have made it possible to hold a physical event."

In her latest film, "Never Gonna Snow Again", Polish director Małgorzata Szumowska ("Mug", "Body") tells the story of the masseur Xhenia (Ale Utgoff), who regularly serves his clients ‑ of the Warsaw middle class ‑ at their homes, ultimately becoming a close confidant to many of them. For a few moments, his magic touch liberates his clients from the worries and anxiety brought on by the enormous pressures they feel.

The film is an international co-production by Match Factory Productions (Germany) and Lava Films (Poland) in cooperation with Kino Świat and Di Factory (both of Poland).Funding for development and production came from the German-Polish Film Fund, Medienstiftung NRW, the Mazowia Film Fund, and the TV networks BR and Arte. Match Factory is going to be in charge of international distribution. "Never Gonna Snow Again" will be brought to German movie theaters by Real Fiction. The German-Polish Film Fund promotes the development and production of German-Polish co-productions. It is a funding scheme run by Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM), Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the FFA (Filmförderungsanstalt), and the Polish Film Institute.

The 77th edition of the Venice International Film Festival will take place from September 2 to 12, 2020.
